HLTFA201A - PROVIDE BASIC EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT


Overview
This course deals with the provision of emergency life support in recognizing and responding to an emergency using basic life support measures. The first aider provides an initial response to a situation where first aid may be required but is not expected to deal with complex casualties or incidents. In this unit it is assumed the first aider is working under supervision and/or according to established workplace or community first aid procedures. This includes the ability to respond to emergency situations requiring the administration of basic life support functions such as casualty assessment, maintaining or restoring breathing, circulation and the management of serious bleeding.

Job Prospects
This course is not directly linked to career planning and is considered an emergency management and personal development program. This qualification satisfies the requirements of many employers where cardio pulmonary resuscitation skills are a pre-requisite or requirement for employment.

Delivery
The course is presented in line with adult learning principles including structured tutorial, in class practical exercises and assessment. The course is competency based and matched to specific learning outcomes contained within nationally recognised training qualifications for cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

Presenters
Instructors are all recognised industry professionals holding relevant experience and training qualifications. They include former paramedics, ambulance personnel and first aid trainers.

Prerequisites
Students should possess and appropriate level of literacy and numeracy and have a reasonable
grasp of spoken English.
