Operate a semi automatic
defibrillator in an emergency (PUAOPE010A)
Overview
This unit covers the competency required
to operate a semi automatic defibrillator to defibrillate a casualty
in an emergency situation.
The aim is to develop a student’s
competence in maintaining or restoring breathing and circulation in
an adult, child or infant. This includes the ability to respond in
the first few minutes to a life-threatening situation, conducting
casualty assessment and performing basic life support functions until
medical assistance arrives.
It includes advanced techniques
for management of the administration of a semi automatic defibrillator
in line with the requirements of the Australian Resuscitation Council
and State and Territory Regulatory bodies. This unit also involves
working with personnel who are engaged in the resuscitation of the
casualty.
Job Prospects
This course is not directly linked to career planning and is considered
an emergency management and personal development program. This qualification
satisfies the requirements of many employers where cardio pulmonary
resuscitation skills in the use of to operate a semi automatic defibrillator
in an emergency are a pre-requisite or requirement for employment.
